Bensleys offers a full range of external re-rendering solutions, including lime-based renders or insulation-backed renders, carried out by Bensleys’ fully trained plasterers. We are also able to offer external waterproofing solutions using modern materials and methods.

Choosing the right render

Lime-based renders let a solid wall breathe, which matters on older or period properties where trapping moisture behind an impermeable coating can cause more problems than it solves. Insulation-backed renders instead prioritise thermal performance, adding external insulation without reducing internal room sizes.

Option 1

Lime-based render

Breathable and traditional, generally the right choice for older or period solid-walled properties.

Option 2

Insulation-backed render

Adds external insulation to the render build-up, improving thermal performance without losing internal space.

Add-on

External waterproofing

Modern waterproofing materials and methods can be specified alongside either render option where needed.

How we carry it out

From specification to a finished elevation.

Step 01

Specification

We recommend lime-based or insulation-backed render based on the wall construction, age and thermal goals.

Step 02

Substrate preparation

Existing render is removed where necessary and the substrate prepared for the new system to bond properly.

Step 03

Render application

Our fully trained plasterers apply the specified render system to the elevation, coat by coat.

Step 04

Render application

Where specified, modern external waterproofing is added, and the finished elevation is signed off.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find clear answers for External Re-rendering.

What types of render does Bensleys offer?
Bensleys offers a full range of external re-rendering solutions, including lime-based renders and insulation-backed renders, carried out by Bensleys' fully trained plasterers.
Can external waterproofing be combined with re-rendering?
Yes. Bensleys is also able to offer external waterproofing solutions using modern materials and methods, which can be specified alongside a re-rendering scheme.
Why choose a lime-based render over a modern cement render?
Lime-based renders are typically specified on older or period properties because they allow the wall to breathe, which helps manage moisture in solid-walled construction rather than trapping it behind an impermeable coating.
Does insulation-backed render improve a property's thermal performance?
Yes. Insulation-backed render adds external insulation as part of the render build-up, which can improve the thermal performance of solid walls without reducing internal room sizes.
